Participation Options
Curtail electrical load or transfer load to a qualified storage system. Back-up generators are ineligible as a demand response curtailment method.
Enrollment Strategy
Enel will work with you to determine your enrollment value based upon the electrical load pattern at your facility, your participation plan, and information regarding your operations. These values may be adjusted monthly based on historical performance and your feedback.
Audit Requirements
SCE may conduct an audit after the 20th of any month without a dispatch to demonstrate your ability to deliver your enrolled kW value. Participation and performance in audits are treated the same as a real dispatch, except audits do not include energy payments in addition to capacity payments. Audits can be 1 to 2 hours in length; Enel expects most audits will be 2 hours long.
Baseline Definition
There are two main components to the program baseline:
- Shape: An unadjusted baseline shape is calculated for each 1-hour interval of the dispatch day by averaging the demand during the same interval from the ten (non-dispatch) weekdays immediately preceding the dispatch day or the past 4 weekend days.
- Height: There is a 3-hour adjustment window beginning 4 hours prior to the dispatch start time. The average difference between your actual load and the unadjusted baseline during the 3-hour window is used to adjust the baseline height up or down to better reflect your actual demand prior to the dispatch.
Keys for Success: Do not implement your participation plan more than one hour prior to the start time. If your electric load is reduced more than one hour before the dispatch or audit start time, your baseline and earning potential may be affected.
Performance Measurement
Performance is the difference between your adjusted baseline and your electric demand (kW). To receive full credit for participation, your curtailed kW must equal or exceed your enrolled kW value.
Each hour of a dispatch or audit is assessed separately and then averaged to determine performance. For any hour that your performance is below the Minimum Delivered Capacity, performance for that hour will be counted as zero. Performance minimums and maximums for each hour are stated in your contract.
Keys for Success: Make sure to execute your full participation plan and verify that equipment does not default back to normal operations during the dispatch.
Payment Calculation
Each month is assessed separately for payment. Payment is based on your average performance across all dispatch and audit hours in a month. If there is no dispatch or audit within a month, you are paid on your full enrollment value.
Capacity payments are paid at a $/kW rate which fluctuates monthly, with the most valuable months being in the summer. It is possible to earn up to the Maximum Delivered Capacity stated in your contract.
Any underperformance will negatively impact your payment for the given months, and may result in reduced enrollment and earning potential in the future. You will not receive payment for any months where average performance across all dispatches is at or below 75%.
