Calculating Your Performance
Your nomination is the difference between the Baseline and Drop-to target, times a PJM-determined demand response factor called ELCC (Effective Load Carrying Capability). In this example, the nomination is 300 kW, while the goal during a dispatch is to reduce demand below 200 kW. Performance during a dispatch is calculated as the average difference between actual demand and the baseline.
Seasonal Variation and Definitions
- Peak Load Contribution (PLC): Summer baseline; based on site’s actual demand during the 5 system-wide peak hours
- Winter Peak Load (WPL): Winter baseline; based on site’s highest demand during the 5 system-wide peak days
- Firm Service Level (FSL): Customer’s “drop-to” target during dispatch; can be different values in summer vs. winter
- Capacity Loss Factor (CLF): Adjusts for transmission losses; value varies by utility/voltage class (typically 1-7%)
- Effective Load Carrying Capability (ELCC): Adjusts for a PJM-determined reliability contribution factor, which changes every year and valid for all demand response resources in a given year.
Summer nomination = PLC – [CLF x Summer FSL] x ELCC
Winter nomination = WPL – [CLF x Winter FSL] x ELCC
